Planning For A Lifetime of Income

New Alternatives for Living Beyond the Paycheck

It isn't just about the money. A life plan where money is everything isn't a plan at all. It's a pathology. Money is a tool in your life plan. It is a tool that you need. It is a tool we don't want you to lose. But it is a tool.

We believe in a holistic life-planning process that articulates and enables a successful transition to retirement. We believe that there are at least four components to a successful life that will carry you through whatever is thrown your way. They are:

  1. Mental and Physical Activity
  2. Meaning and Purpose
  3. Luxury (as you define it)
  4. Eliminating  Negative Money Emotions

Too many financial advisors will help you create a retirement plan without ever discovering what you actually want from retirement. If no one asks you that then no one will ever know that it's possible you haven't thought about it much yourself, other than those vague fears that you won't 'have enough'.

Financial Modeling

Financial modeling is a wonderful tool for financial planning but it simply measures what you have, what you can expect, what you owe and builds a financial scenario based on how long you will live rather than how well you will live. We do the modeling on your first visit but we don't really give you a life plan until we know how money, that important tool, can best work in your life. To get to that we ask clients three questions:

If you had all the money you could imagine what would you do?

It is a privilege for us to listen to the answers to that question. The answers from our clients restore our faith in fundamental human decency. Clients want to be of service to others or provide for their families. They want to paint or write. They want to travel or sail or sit in a perfect place in quiet contemplation.

If you were told you had 10 healthy years left to live what would you like to do?

This is far more than the '1,000 Things to do Before You Die' list. It is about reaching an emotional center, particularly as it pertains to money and the fears it engenders in so many of us. It is your path. Dedicated financial advice as part of your life plan clears that path.

What would you do in your last 24 hours? What would you regret?

This question is not asked to induce a sense of desperation. Far from it. It adds immediacy to what we need to accomplish and an urgency to resolving and dealing with regret in order to move forward. We ask it so that a potential client sees each day as the opportunity it is and so that we may see how money can serve all of our innate capacities for joy, kindness and sense of self-worth.

It is not our goal to tell you how to live but to listen carefully to how you want to live and match your money to your life. That means periodic review, frank discussions of financial behaviors that are deviant from your life plan, encouragement and, on our part, performance. We want clients with lives fulfilled, freed from financial insecurity. To that end we offer an array of concierge services and outside counsel on everything from real estate sale to education saving to estate planning.

We want what you want. You need only tell us what that is.
